What a year 2020 has been. We have seen our industry suffer tremendously. But we have passion and motivation and perseverance and Africa and especially Southern Africa is calling to travel again and to enjoy the scenery, sunsets, magnificent wide open landscapes and the wildlife it has to offer.
We were not sure if a Christmas newsletter or card would be in order as the Christmas spirit is not quite there (yet) but we want to send a message today to you, your company, your family. .The light at the end of that tunnel is there. We remain positive and know that whatever 2021 brings us will not be able to get us down. 2020 has taught us and we have learnt many lessons to make changes to our lives and thinking and for that already we can be grateful. So on this note we want to remind you of the many positive things we and our partners have experienced this year and share with you some of the highlights:

Our Namibia Partners
Last and most certainly not least is our large Namibian family who stretches right from the northern tip on the Kunene river to the south in NamibRand Nature Reserve.
The teams from all of the Classic Namibia camps have been very busy these last few months, rebuilding and building again and starting amazing new and inspiring projects with their local communities.
African Monarch Lodges collaborated with The Collective Boutique Namibia and Myeisha Namibia to empower the local ladies to start the Sijwa Sewing project. The sewing machines were sponsored and the woman at Sijwa are able to create beautiful re-usable cloth bags which are being used by The Collective Boutique and Myeisha as their in-store shopping bags. More training and skill development will be following so this is definitely a project to keep an eye on for more stunning items.
At Onguma they are rebuilding Tree Top for the second time after devastating fires but this has also allowed the owners to re think the future of this camp and its purpose and some exciting times are ahead that is for sure. Not only was Covid a serious negative factor for Namibian tourism but the pestering drought was also and is still an ongoing issue especially in the south of Namibia and Onguma assisted with getting grass delivered to other areas to feed livestock and wildlife. Everyone is standing together and helping out where they can. As tourism is a major financial contributing factor to maintain anti-poaching units in Onguma Reserve a campaign was started where even a small donation could be made to keep the rangers going who is spending their days looking after the wildlife of this area. Contact Onguma if you want to find out more about this.
Our new partner Otjimbondona Kalahari has a Post Covid special offer which is valid until end of February 2021. This is and ideal getaway as it is a mere 1.5h from Windhoek. A stay at Otjimbondona can easily be the start or end of your safari through Namibia.
Wolwedans has departed onto a new journey, Wolwedans Vision 2030, which does not only include major revamps of the camps but also a new outlook on tourism and guests’ needs. Retreats, make time for yourselves, Consciousness as the 5th C are just some turning points in the new direction. Stephan shared his vision plan on the recent Campfire talk with us.. if you missed this you can watch it again here https://youtu.be/TcjBwEL0enA
Chiwani has also gone into the revamp mode, plunge pools and enlarged decks at Mini Suite and Luxury Room at Mowani, extended restaurant decks and further lounges are just some of the elements. Click here to view the picture gallery.
Okahirongo Lodges and Swakopmund Guesthouse are also looking forward to new guests and we thank all those tourism partners that have placed booking over the festive season with our camps and lodges in Namibia and we look forward to all new bookings for Robin Pope Safaris and Machaba Safaris.
On a very personal note, I would like to thank my partners who have supported me during this Covid time and granted me a financial survival in very trying times. And I would like to thank my dear colleague Amelia for her dedication and hard work during this past year.
To end off we would like to quote some wise words shared by Robin Pope Safaris:
“No storm lasts forever…”
The past year has changed everything but the magic of the African wilderness remained as unwavering and resilient as ever, giving us all hope for better times ahead. A new year brings new hope and we are excited to share the beauty of Africa and it’s genuine people with you.
From me and my team we wish you a Merry Christmas and may 2021 be a remarkable one !
