The Okahirongo River Camp is located in the very north of the Kaokoveld on the border where the Kunene river forms the border between Namibia and Angola. It is a pleasant contrast to see the life-giving course of the river in the middle of a barren and supposedly lifeless desert. The Kaokoland is one of the most pristine and undeveloped areas of Namibia. Rugged roads and a lack of infrastructure have helped to preserve the beauty of this region. Endless plains of sweeping grass, hard rocky areas, dramatic mountains and the gorges are only some of the landscape features that are so typical for the region.Covid-19 Camp Protocol More Info
The lodge was built by Italian owners who brought in a perfectionist obsession for style and a deeply rooted love for the region. Rossella Mauri and her friend Lucia Vullo have anchored their hearts deeply into this region and ensure the lodges are run to perfection and true Italian hospitality. Being privately owned, they are proud members of Classic Safari Africa.
Five luxury tents on wooden platforms and a family tent suite with 2 bedrooms provide accommodation for 14 guests in one of Namibia's most lonely regions. The construction of the en suite tents ensures pleasant ventilation at all times. The restaurant and viewing deck with its elegant panorama pool overlook the cascades of the Kunene border river. The camp is the starting point for exciting excursions to authentic Himba accommodations, whose culture and traditions are explained by local guides.
Special interest safaris include:
Boat cruises on the Kunene River
Authentic Himba interactions
Nature drive on tracks of desert elephants and desert lions
